Our Global Network
Marymount Barranquilla's accreditation process began in 2007 under the leadership of Sister Johanna. After evaluating several accrediting agencies, NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) was chosen for its alignment with the desired educational experience.
Marymount was accredited by NEASC on May 13, 2010. Subsequently, inspired by Marymount Medellin's accreditation with CIS (Council of International Schools), it was also decided to seek this accreditation to strengthen the international educational experience.
Although CIS delayed accreditation, finally on April 27, 2011, Marymount was accredited by CIS.
International Accreditations
NEASC, founded in 1885, is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental society that connects more than 2,000 public and private colleges, technical and professional institutions, and universities in New England (USA) as well as international schools in more than 65 countries around the world.

New England Association of Schools and Colleges
For NEASC, accreditation is based on comprehensive self-reflection and peer review feedback, promoting continuous improvement and educational success. Guided by research standards, it provides clear direction for learning communities, ensuring an outstanding educational experience for students.
CIS is a global community that enhances international education through professional services for schools, higher education institutions and individuals. Its vision is to inspire global citizens through high quality education, connecting ideas, cultures and educators from around the world.

Council of International Schools
The CIS community is committed to closely developing global competence in education through ethics, diversity, global issues, communication, service, leadership and sustainable living.

Why is it important to be internationally accredited?
1. An international accreditation generates evidence of the institutional health of a school and is a guarantee of quality, both for teacher candidates and for the families of prospective students.
2. An international accreditation is a powerful vehicle for change, improvement and strengthening for the school.
3. International accreditation is validated and recognized as a seal of quality assurance by Ministries and Departments of Education in countries around the world.

The University of Melbourne

The partnership between Marymount School Barranquilla and the University of Melbourne focuses on a "Next Generation Assessment and Accreditation" initiative. Marymount is a "Founding School" of this collaboration, which drives the "Global Impact Diploma" (GID). This diploma is a two-year curricular program that seeks to offer students alternative routes, develop their global competence and align with the latest educational trends. The focus is competency-based, specifically on the "DEVICES" skills (Digital Citizens, Emotionally Intelligent, Service-Oriented Leaders, Intercultural Global Citizens, Creative Problem Solvers, Environmental Caregivers, and Self-Directed and Resilient Learners). Assessment is conducted using Melbourne Metrics tools and the University of Melbourne's Ruby online platform, which provide in-depth insight into students and their competency development. To earn the GID, students must complete courses, demonstrate a "COMPETENT" level in skills, and submit a Portfolio and Impact Exhibition. The partnership seeks to transform education by focusing on 21st century skills and authentic assessment.
