OUR PLANET OUR PLAN

Our Commitment to the Environment:
At Marymount Barranquilla, to train students to become Environmental Caretakers is a fundamental pillar of our educational profile. This attribute reflects our commitment to the formation of people who are conscious, responsible and actively involved in the protection of the natural environment. In order to develop this competence in a meaningful way, the school has taken a step forward by adopting the international Eco-Schools program, a structured guide that allows us to integrate sustainability into school life and foster in our students a true culture of care and respect for the environment.

Eco-Schools is an international program of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that promotes education for sustainable development in educational institutions around the world. Through a participatory and action-based methodology, Eco-Schools empowers students to lead environmental initiatives inside and outside the classroom. Among its main advantages are the strengthening of teamwork, critical thinking, responsible decision-making and a sense of belonging to their natural environment and community.
The Eco-Schools methodology is based on a seven-step participatory approach that involves the entire educational community. Through the work of the Eco-Committee, students identify environmental problems, propose solutions and lead concrete actions that generate a positive and sustainable impact on their environment.

Initiatives and programs
RECYCLING PROGRAM - PUT WASTE IN THE RIGHT PLACE
Our recycling program is an institutional initiative aimed at promoting environmental care in the educational community through the correct separation and disposal of usable waste. In the school we have ecological points strategically located for the collection of materials such as paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and caps. These wastes are delivered to our environmental allies, who are in charge of giving them an adequate final destination for their reuse or transformation, preventing them from reaching landfills.consistent with the Eco-Schools methodology, recycling is worked as a cross-cutting project, integrating pedagogical activities, awareness campaigns, and the active participation of students, teachers, families and administrative staff. In this way, we strengthen competencies such as environmental responsibility, collaborative work and citizen awareness, contributing to the care of our planet and the achievement of our school sustainability goals.

BIODIVERSITY
In the biodiversity component, Green Club students lead the care of our flower garden and organize planting days in school spaces, contributing to the beautification of the campus, the conservation of local flora and the generation of habitats for pollinators and other species.

STRATEGIC ALLIANCES
To strengthen our environmental efforts and expand the positive impact on the community, we have the support of strategic allies such as Mar Verde, Recopila, FARRAEE and CRA. These organizations collaborate with the school in the implementation of educational campaigns, awareness activities and various initiatives that promote sustainability and care for the environment, thus contributing to the formation of students who are more aware and committed to their environment.

GREEN CLUB
The Green Club is a student organization dedicated to promoting sustainability in the school. It is made up of students committed to caring for the environment, who lead, design and execute action plans aligned with the Eco-Schools methodology. Through their initiatives, they promote recycling projects, biodiversity and awareness campaigns, inspiring the entire educational community to adopt responsible and sustainable habits.
