This year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of the iconic queens of 'Carnaval de Barranquilla', Maria Cecilia Donado, better known as 'Chechi', former Marymount student, Class of 1989. 'Chechi' was Carnival Queen in 1996, a dream that she had ever since her cousins, Margarita Rosa and Ana Maria Donado, were also Carnival queens. Her smile, sweetness and discipline conquered the heart of the people of Barranquilla.
Her extensive knowledge of the Carnivals led her to be the official presenter of its main events for the Telecaribe channel during seven consecutive years. In 2003 she assumed the Executive Direction of 'Carnaval de Barranquilla' with important results such as the largest Europe tour in the history of the festival, the Carnival presentation at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, and at the OAS in New York. Her outstanding management led her to be the Vice Minister of Culture of Colombia from 2006 to 2008, High Counselor for the Bicentennial of Colombia from 2009 to 2011, and member of the Board of Directors of 'Carnaval de Barranquilla' from 2010 to 2020.
She currently works as the Communications and Corporate Affairs Director of the Air-e company. At Marymount we join 'Chechi' in the celebration of her 25th anniversary!
