At Marymount Barranquilla, we define sustainability as the development that satisfies the present needs without engaging the ability of future generations, guaranteeing a harmonious balance between economic growth and care of the environment and social well-being.

According to UNESCO, sustainability is a long-term goal - a more sustainable world, reached through sustainable development. For its part, sustainable development refers to the practices and processes implemented to reach sustainability (sustainable agriculture, production and sustainable consumption, education and entertainment, etc.).

In accordance to our Vision, "Be the Leaders Educating Leaders" and, aware of our Mission to provide a quality education based on Catholic principles and formation in values to develop entrepreneurial leaders in a globalized society, we seek to awake and strengthen in our students, teachers and community in general, the conviction and commitment of reducing our individual and collective Ecological Footprint.

Marymount aims to become a Sustainable School, which contributes to the preservation of resources and a reduction of waste, through the adoption and implementation of sustainable practices which will be shared as institutional policies.

Eco Schools is a global sustainability initiative that promotes a path for schools to improve the environment in their communities and locally. It starts in the classroom, empowering students, by allowing them to participate actively in the creation of school environmental management policies, with the objective of creating an impact in the general community.

At Marymount Barranquilla, we have adopted the program to satisfy our specific needs and we are following the Seven Steps in our quest to become a Sustainable School.
